Dear Coffee Professional:
One of the great challenges of producing an Expo that has a 28-year tradition is finding the balance between tradition and innovation. It is thus a real pleasure for me to write a few words about this year’s annual gathering of the specialty coffee community as we embark on our 28th edition. This year’s Expo will feature all of the great traditions that make it a great event, including Re:co Symposium, hundreds of hours of educational classes and compelling presentations, over 450 exhibitors, an exciting set of coffee competitions, and—of course—the greatest networking opportunity in specialty coffee.
On top of all of this, we are pleased to introduce some compelling new features this year. Uppers and Downers will let you explore the intersection of craft beer and specialty coffee on the show floor. Our new Tech Pavilion will bring you the latest innovations in coffee management systems that you can interact with in real time. From the science team at SCAA comes our first scientific poster session, with leading coffee scientists presenting their original research in easily digestible form with live conversations. You should also look for the coffee film series and an all-new Best New Product program. Blending tradition with innovation is also manifested in this year’s Portrait Country, Indonesia—one of the original sources of specialty coffee—and a producing country that continues to grow and evolve its coffee traditions.
Most of all though, the SCAA Expo is a gathering of the clan of specialty coffee professionals from all over the world. I encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to meet with, explore with, and engage with as many of the thousands of dedicated folks who make up our community. Coffee is a uniquely social beverage and compels us to interact in wonderful and sometimes magical ways.
So, on behalf of our official host sponsor Royal Cup Coffee, the Board of Directors and Staff of the SCAA, welcome to Atlanta and the 28th annual SCAA Expo. Have a great time learning, exploring and connecting with coffee and coffee people.
