SCAA Member Reaches Out to Earthquake Victims

In light of the recent earthquakes that have devastated parts of the world in 2011 we would like to shine some light on the work being done by our members to help victims in one of the recently hit areas. Crafted Coffee Co., was one of the coffee companies affected by 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Christchurch, New Zealand on February 22nd. The quake, coming a mere six months after a 7.1 quake hit the region, destroyed thousands of businesses in the Christchurch Central Business District. One of the heaviest hit groups was the café and roasting community.

Crafted Coffee is doing their part to help the recovery effort in Christchurch. They have set up, a virtual café where patrons can purchase virtual bags of coffee beans, flat whites and espresso machines. All proceeds from the sales of these virtual items will be awarded as grants to coffee professionals and companies hit hardest by the earthquake. The grants have been used to reopen shops, rehire a number of employees, and encourage new business. If you want to learn more about how you can help or get involved, visit this website. Our thoughts and hopes for a smooth recovery go out to all those affected by the recent earthquakes.
