We were encouraged by the conversation around our keynote address announcement. Facilitating open exchange is a large part of the rationale behind our choice. As we face the challenges ahead—a restructuring industry, increasing competitiveness, supply constraints, socio-economic pressures, and a rapidly changing customer demographic—we seek to elevate and expand our thinking. Whether that search leads to new ideas or solidifies our current beliefs, we aspire to always maintain the willingness to look at what we’re doing and ask ourselves if there is another avenue, or perhaps a better possibility. There’s a great quote by Walter Lippmann: When all men think alike, no one thinks very much. So whether you agree or respectively disagree with the perspective offered on leadership, the goal is to inspire the fearlessness and thoughtful debate required to be the leaders who will advance this vibrant community of specialty coffee.
